DRDO shortlists SSS Defence & Kalyani Group to develop indigenous aviation gun for Rudra, LCH helicopters.

Indian small arms manufacturer SSS Defence and defence major Kalyani Group have been shortlisted as the Development cum Production Partners (DcPP) for an Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) project to develop an indigenous 20 mm aviation gun and turret system.

Once approved for production, the manufacturing contract will be split between both firms based on cost metrics. The lowest bidder (L1) will secure 60% of the order, while the runner-up will receive the remaining 40%.

Currently, India's Rudra & Prachand helicopters rely on imported weapon systems; the LCH Prachand utilizes a 20 mm turret gun supplied by the European defense manufacturer KNDS.

This initiative marks the very first native design and development program for a medium-caliber aviation gun in Indian history.

CISF personnel apprehended a passenger at Delhi's Jama Masjid Metro Station after he allegedly attempted to flee when a suspicious, dense object appeared on the XBIS screen during baggage screening.
